Shunning the formalities of the 1950s and stiffness of haute couture, the duo were pioneers of a style which was more readily accessible to women without compromising on quality. While the first Chloé boutique didn’t open until 1971, during the 1960s the fashion house became widely acknowledged as a popular brand that symbolised youth and femininity.

In 1966 Karl Lagerfeld was appointed head designer and the house counted Jackie Kennedy, Grace Kelly and Brigitte Bardot among its clientele.
